Overview

Raya Noi, Raya Yai, and Maiton Island

Into a single day trip is a popular "premium" route from Phuket. These islands are located south of the mainland and are famous for having some of the clearest turquoise waters and most "powder-like" white sand in the region. Here is an overview of what each island offers:

  1. Raya Noi (Racha Noi) – The "Wild" Twin Raya Noi is the smaller, uninhabited island further south. Because it is more isolated, it feels more pristine and "untouched." • Pirates Beach: A stunning, quiet beach with crystal-clear water and a small hill you can hike for a panoramic viewpoint. • Banana Bay: One of the best snorkeling spots. It features vibrant coral reefs and a huge variety of colorful tropical fish. • Vibe: Quiet, rugged, and naturally beautiful. It is a favorite for experienced divers due to its deeper waters and granite boulders.
  2.  Raya Yai (Racha Yai) – The "Big" Sister Raya Yai is the main island where most tours stop for lunch. It is more developed, with a few resorts and restaurants. • Patok Bay & Siam Bay: Wide, horseshoe-shaped bays with incredibly soft white sand. The water here is often described as "glassy" and "swimming pool-like." • Activities: Excellent for shallow-water snorkeling, paddleboarding, or simply relaxing on the beach. • Vibe: More social and comfortable. It's the perfect spot for a tropical lunch with a view.
  3.  Maiton Island (Koh Mai Ton) – The "Dolphin" Island Maiton is a private island often referred to as the "Maldives of Thailand" because of its clear, turquoise waters. • Dolphin Watching: This is the biggest highlight. Wild pods of bottlenose dolphins live in the waters surrounding the island. While sightings aren't guaranteed, this is the best place near Phuket to see them. • Private Atmosphere: Since it's a private island, boat traffic is more restricted, keeping the water very clean and the atmosphere peaceful. • Vibe: Exclusive and serene. It is usually the last stop on a tour for a "sunset" feel or dolphin spotting on the way back to the pier. Travel Tips • Best Time to Visit: November to April (Dry Season) provides the calmest seas and the best visibility (up to 30 meters). • Departure: Most tours depart from Chalong Pier or Leam Nga Pier in Phuket. • What to Bring: Reef-safe sunscreen, a waterproof bag (dry bag), and an underwater camera if you have one.
